Have you been planning on expanding your cape cod? Many cape cod owners throughout Bergen County NJ will hire a qualified New Jersey Remodeling Contractor or NJ Home Improvement Contractor to modify their cape cod home.  The most common conversion for a cape cod is an Add a Level. Commonly referred to as a raised level, you can double the size of your cape cod by simply adding an entire new level above. The existing roof would be removed and a new floor would be built. The idea of an add a level is to bring all the bedrooms upstairs as well as 1-2 bathrooms. By moving all the bedrooms upstairs from the 1st floor, you then can remove the bedrooms from the 1st floor by removing the walls and closets. This will create an open floor plan on the first floor. Although some walls are load and non- load bearing, your New Jersey remodeling contractor will be able to open the walls for you and install the necessary headers if needed.

Having built hundreds of add a levels throughout Bergen County NJ, when having your add a level addition designed and built, you want the end product to have a look that when finished, the home never looked as though you added a new top floor. This can be achieved by creating a roof line that will accent your 2nd floor windows by adding reverse gables and or eye brow returns. These small gable style roofs will accent the 2nd floor windows and give a better appearance from the street. Furthermore, you can build an entry portico that will further accent the front of your home. Another trick that we use that helps create a multi dimensional roof line is to add an eyebrow roof on the front of your home. This roofline will be installed where the 1st floor and 2nd floor meet. It’s a small roof that runs across the front of the home just above the 1st floor windows. Between the accent gables and eyebrow roof line, your cape cod conversion will look very natural.
